Hamburg head coach Merlin Polzin has revealed the reason Super Eagles forward Terem Moffi will miss the club’s friendly game against Danish side Copenhagen on Sunday, Soccernet.ng reports.
The Nigerian striker completed a summer move to the Bundesliga club during the summer transfer window in a deal worth around €2.5 million after leaving French side Nice.
Moffi had spent the second half of the 2025/26 season on loan at Porto alongside compatriot Zaidu Sanusi and helped the Portuguese club win the league title, but Porto decided not to exercise their option to sign him permanently.

The decision meant Moffi returned to Nice before eventually leaving the French club to join Hamburg.
Since arriving in Germany, Moffi has been gradually settling into Hamburg’s system. He has featured in all four of their Bundesliga matches this season, starting two of them, although he is yet to open his goalscoring account for the club.
The striker played a key role in Nigeria’s Unity Cup 2026 triumph, but was eventually left out of Eric Chelle’s 24-man Super Eagles squad for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Madagascar and Guinea-Bissau.

Moffi: Super Eagles striker ruled out of Hamburg vs Copenhagen clash
Hamburg are set to face Copenhagen in a friendly on Sunday during the international break, with the Bundesliga side looking to use the game to give their available players valuable minutes and improve their match fitness.
However, Moffi will not be involved as he continues to recover from a knee problem. The Super Eagles star started Hamburg’s recent Bundesliga victory over Cologne, but reports after the match indicated that he was struggling with a knee injury.
Speaking ahead of the Copenhagen friendly, Polzin confirmed that Moffi remains unavailable because he has yet to return to full team training.
“With Terem, the situation is that the joint has reacted a little. We have to see how things develop for him over the course of this week”, Polzin explained, via OneFootball.

Moffi will now be hoping to return to full training soon and recover in time for Hamburg’s next Bundesliga game against Hoffenheim on October 10.
Hamburg have picked up just one win from their opening four league matches and will be hoping the Super Eagles striker can return to fitness and help them push for a second victory of the season.
