Brentford vs Liverpool preview, team news, h2h: Nigeria’s Fredrick awaits Bees’ chance

The latest installment of Brentford vs Liverpool unfolds at the Gtech Community Stadium on Saturday, October 17.

The Premier League Matchweek 7 fixture pits a resurgent fourth-placed home side against a Liverpool team still searching for consistency under Andoni Iraola. Kickoff is 15:00 WAT.

Super Eagles defender on Brentford's books, Benjamin Fredrick, will likely not be part of matchday squad planning for this one, and that in itself says something about where Keith Andrews has taken this club.

Fredrick started the Super Eagles friendly against Russia earlier this month after making four consecutive appearances for Nigeria during the 2026 World Cup qualifying campaign. Yet at Brentford he sits fourth or fifth in the queue of centre-backs, with Collins, van den Berg, Ajer and Schuster all ahead of him in Andrews' plans.

Brentford vs Liverpool: Form guide

Brentford have not lost in their last five league matches, a run of one win and four draws that reads Aston Villa 2-2 away, Chelsea 3-0 at home, Bournemouth 2-2 away, Sunderland 1-1 at home and Leeds 1-1 away, nine goals scored against six conceded. That sequence has lifted Andrews' side to fourth with ten points from six games.

Liverpool's last five brought two wins, two draws – including at home to Aina's Forest – and a heavy 0-3 home defeat to Manchester City, with five goals scored, five conceded and three clean sheets across the other four matches. Iraola's side sit ninth with nine points, one behind Brentford, with the clear pattern of a team still settling into his high-intensity approach.

Brentford vs Liverpool: Head-to-head

The Reds hold the historical advantage in this Brentford vs Liverpool fixture, leading 6 wins to 2 across 10 Premier League meetings since Brentford’s promotion in 2021, with 2 draws.

At the Gtech Community Stadium specifically, Brentford’s record against Liverpool reads 2 wins, 1 draw and 2 defeats across the last five meetings there.

The most recent meeting is a 3-2 Brentford win last October.

Key battle: Brentford's centre-back queue against Liverpool's attacking doubts

Nathan Collins and Jannik Schuster are both fitness doubts heading into the weekend. Collins is managing a calf problem and Schuster is still carrying an ankle knock from the defeat at Villa, with his inclusion in real doubt. If either fails a late fitness test, Andrews turns to Sepp van den Berg or Kristoffer Ajer first, with Fredrick as his fourth name on the team sheet rather than a realistic starter.

The duel that matters more directly is how that back line, whoever lines up in it, copes with Liverpool's forward options, all three of whom carry their own fitness question marks.

Alexander Isak, Liverpool's top scorer with four goals in five appearances, is managing a thigh issue, and Cody Gakpo is managing an ankle problem of his own. Florian Wirtz, expected to start regardless, has the technical quality to exploit any hesitancy in a Brentford defence that has conceded six goals across its unbeaten run.

Brentford vs Liverpool: Team news

Andrews remains without Kaye Furo, Josh Dasilva and Antoni Milambo through injury, and Kevin Schade, Brentford's top league scorer, is a doubt after a shoulder problem kept him out of full training this week.

For Liverpool, Ryan Gravenberch serves a one-match ban following his red card against Manchester City, while Hugo Ekitiké and Conor Bradley remain long-term absentees, the latter not expected back in first-team contention until around January 2027. Giovanni Leoni is also out, and Dominik Szoboszlai, Gakpo and Isak are all described by Iraola as day-to-day.

Fredrick and the Super Eagles

Fredrick's new four-year contract at Brentford, signed after his return from a serious knee injury on loan at FCV Dender, secures his long-term future at the club even while first-team opportunities remain scarce.

His run of four straight Nigeria starts through last year's World Cup qualifying cycle suggests the national team set-up already trusts him more than his club pecking order would indicate, and a sustained run of fitness and squad involvement at Brentford, even in cup competitions, would strengthen his case to keep that place.

The youngster will, however , grab the opportunity with both hands if he makes his Premier League debut in this Brentford vs Liverpool clash.

The Verdict

Brentford 2-1 Liverpool

Brentford's unbeaten run counts for more here than Liverpool's individual quality, particularly with three of Iraola's front-line options managing fitness doubts heading into the weekend. Likely scorers: Igor Thiago for Brentford, Wirtz for Liverpool.
