Tolu Arokodare chasing Ajax record set by Luis Suárez and Patrick Kluivert

Super Eagles striker Tolu Arokodare is one goal away from joining a select group of Ajax strikers after making an impressive start to life in Amsterdam, Soccernet.ng reports.

The Nigeria international has scored in each of his first two Eredivisie starts for Ajax, finding the net against Telstar and PSV.

Arokodare will now look to make it three goals in three league starts when Ajax face Fortuna Sittard.

If he starts and scores again, he will join some famous names in Ajax history who also scored in at least their first three Eredivisie starts for the club.

Arokodare eyes Ajax record

Luis Suárez achieved the feat in 2007, scoring in three straight starts after joining Ajax. Brian Brobbey also went on a longer run after returning to the club from RB Leipzig in 2022, scoring in each of his first five starts.

Arokodare's current run has also placed him in the company of several other Ajax players who made fast starts.

David Neres scored in his first three starts in 2017, while Michael Laudrup found the net in his first four starts in 1997.

Patrick Kluivert holds the standout record among the players mentioned by Voetbal International. The former Netherlands striker scored in each of his first six starts after breaking into the Ajax first team in 1994.

Arokodare still has a long way to go before he can match Kluivert, but another goal against Fortuna would give him an early place in Ajax's history.

The Nigerian had already scored when he made his first start for Ajax in the Conference League play-offs against FC Sion. His two Eredivisie goals have now given him a strong start to his league career at one of the Netherlands' biggest clubs.

The former Genk forward joined Ajax on a season-long loan deal from English club Wolverhampton Wanderers, with the Dutch side retaining the option of making the move permanent.
