Bundesliga club Eintracht Frankfurt have completed the signing of Super Eagles midfielder Raphael Onyedika from Belgian champions Club Brugge, Soccernet.ng reports.
The move brings an end to months of speculation over the Nigerian midfielder's future after he entered the final year of his contract at Club Brugge and showed little interest in signing an extension.
Onyedika had been linked with a move away from the Belgian club since the winter transfer window, but no deal materialized at the time. With his contract winding down, an exit this summer became increasingly likely.
The 25-year-old leaves Club Brugge after a successful three-year spell, having made 183 appearances across all competitions since arriving in 2022. During that period, he helped the club win two Belgian Pro League titles, including the 2025-26 league crown, as well as the Belgian Cup and Belgian Super Cup.
Frankfurt had an initial bid rejected earlier this summer but returned with an improved offer that convinced Club Brugge to sanction the transfer.
Breakdown of Raphael Onyedika's move to Frankfurt
According to Fabrizio Romano, Eintracht Frankfurt have now completed the signing of Onyedika, who is set to travel to Germany to finalize the move.
The deal is worth up to €10 million (approximately ₦15.7 billion), including performance-related add-ons. Onyedika is expected to sign a five-year contract that will keep him at Frankfurt until 2031.
Frankfurt faced competition from clubs in the Saudi Pro League, with Al Ittihad among the teams interested in signing the Nigerian international s they searched for a replacement for beteran midfielder Fabinho. However, the Saudi club have since shifted their attention to Super Eagles captain Wilfred Ndidi.
The Bundesliga side remained determined to complete the deal because as they identified Onyedika's energy and ball-winning ability qualities that make him an ideal fit for their high-intensity style of play.
His contract situation also strengthened Frankfurt's negotiating position, with Club Brugge aware that they risked losing him for nothing next summer if they failed to sell him during this transfer window.
Frankfurt, who are looking to strengthen their midfield ahead of the new campaign as they target a return to European football after last season's disappointment have now secured the agreement they wanted.
Onyedika also becomes the sixth Nigerian to represent Eintracht Frankfurt, following in the footsteps of Henry Isaac, Jay-Jay Okocha, Nduka Anyanwu, Donald Agu and Isaac Ojigwe.
The Super Eagles midfielder will now undergo his medical before officially completing the move as he begins the next chapter of his career in the Bundesliga, where he will hope to build on the impressive form he showed during his time at Club Brugge.
