Nigeria's Super Falcons will begin their quest for a place at the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games with a second-round qualifying clash against Comoros, Soccernet.ng reports.
This comes after the island nation completed a stunning 30-0 aggregate victory over Sudan in the opening round of the CAF Women's Olympic Football Tournament qualifiers.
The two-legged encounter between Comoros and Sudan, played in Morocco in June 2026, produced one of the most one-sided scorelines ever recorded in African women's football. Comoros ran out 17-0 winners in the first leg on June 3 before following it up with another emphatic 13-0 victory five days later to seal a remarkable aggregate triumph.
The first meeting saw Comoros take control from the opening minutes. Fatima Saïd Madjiri opened the scoring in the eighth minute before the goals continued to flow throughout the contest. Haloua Ahamada was the star performer with four goals, while Aliya Saïd, Shaima Boina Ali and Faïza Houmadi each scored twice. Neila Dahmani, Samira Ahamada, Bibihawaraïssa Housseni, Assimina Maoulida, Esteline Anduma and Diore Saïd also got on the scoresheet as Sudan struggled to cope with the relentless attacking display.
Comoros maintained the same intensity in the return leg, winning 13-0 to complete a record-breaking 30-0 aggregate success and book a date with Nigeria, Africa's most successful women's national team.
Nigeria: Super Falcons begin Olympic journey in October
Nigeria were exempted from the preliminary round because of their status as one of Africa's highest-ranked teams and will enter the qualification campaign in October 2026. The second-round tie against Comoros will be played over two legs during the CAF international window scheduled between October 5 and October 13.
The qualification series is entirely knockout-based, meaning the winner on aggregate score will advance to the third round. For the Super Falcons, the fixture represents the first step in a long road towards securing one of Africa's two available tickets for the women's football tournament at the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles.
Comoros will arrive with confidence after their historic scoring spree, but they face a Nigeria side that remains the dominant force in African women's football. The Super Falcons are 10-time Women's Africa Cup of Nations champions.
Should Nigeria overcome Comoros, they will face the winner of the second-round tie between Morocco and Congo in the next stage, scheduled for February and March 2027. Beyond that, a potential fourth-round showdown could await against teams from the Senegal, Tunisia, Benin Republic and Mali section of the draw.
Nigeria are aiming for a fifth appearance at the Olympic Games after previously qualifying for Sydney 2000, Athens 2004, Beijing 2008 and Paris 2024. Their most recent qualification campaign ended a 16-year absence from the competition, with the Super Falcons edging South Africa 1-0 on aggregate to secure a place at the Paris Games.
Nigeria are currently focused on preparing for the 2026 Africa Cup of Nations next month where the Super Falcons are aiming to retain the crown they won in Morocco last year.
The reigning champions have won three and drawn one of their last four games, including a convincing 3-0 friendly win over West African neighbours Senegal yesterday (Monday, June 8).
