Over the past four decades, Nigerian footballers have left a huge mark on Turkish football, Soccernet.ng reports.
Nigerian stars have thrilled supporters with goals, flair, power and unforgettable moments, with their names on many lips from the noisy streets of Istanbul to the passionate football cities of Trabzon, Sivas and Rize,
Some arrived as unknown youngsters and became club legends. Others moved to Türkiye after shining in Europe and quickly turned into title winners and fan favourites. Together, they helped strengthen the relationship between Nigerian football and the Turkish Süper Lig.
Several have won league titles, domestic cups and individual awards in Türkiye. Some became captains. Others earned Turkish citizenship because of their deep connection with the country. But above all, goals made many of them unforgettable.
Here are Nigeria’s top 10 greatest goalscorers in Turkish Süper Lig history
Uche Okechukwu: 26 goals

Former Super Eagles captain Uche Okechukwu is the only defender on this list.
Despite playing at centre-back, Okechukwu scored 26 league goals in 250 appearances during an outstanding career in Türkiye. He represented Fenerbahçe and İstanbulspor across 12 seasons.
He became one of the longest-serving foreign players in Turkish football history and later obtained Turkish citizenship under the name Deniz Uygar.
Okechukwu won two Süper Lig titles with Fenerbahçe as well as the Prime Minister’s Cup and Atatürk Cup in 1998. His leadership, aerial strength and consistency made him one of the most respected foreign defenders to play in Turkey.
Henry Onyekuru: 28 goals

Henry Onyekuru scored 28 league goals during his different spells in Turkish football. The winger became a fan favourite at Galatasaray, where his pace and direct attacking style caused constant problems for defenders.
One of his biggest moments came in May 2019 when he scored against İstanbul Başakşehir in a 2-1 win that secured the Süper Lig title for Galatasaray.
That victory also completed a domestic double after Galatasaray had already lifted the Turkish Cup days earlier. Onyekuru also featured for Adana Demirspor and later joined Gençlerbirliği.
Aminu Umar: 28 goals

Aminu Umar scored 28 goals in 159 league matches across six seasons.
The winger played for clubs including Samsunspor, Osmanlıspor and Çaykur Rizespor. Umar helped Osmanlıspor gain promotion to the Süper Lig before later helping them remain in the top division. Although he never won the league title, he earned praise for his speed, hard work and attacking energy.
Away from club football, one of the finest moments of his career came at the Rio 2016 Olympics, where he helped Nigeria win bronze.
Austin Jay-Jay Okocha: 30 goals

Few foreign players have ever entertained Turkish supporters like Jay-Jay Okocha.
The Nigerian playmaker scored 30 goals in only 62 league appearances after joining Fenerbahçe from Eintracht Frankfurt in 1996.
Okocha dazzled fans with outrageous dribbles, tricks and powerful free-kicks. Many of his goals came directly from set-pieces. His impact became so huge that he later accepted Turkish citizenship under the name Muhammet Yavuz.
When he eventually left for Paris Saint-Germain, he became the most expensive outgoing transfer in Fenerbahçe’s history at the time.
Emmanuel Emenike: 34 goals

Emmanuel Emenike scored 34 goals in 94 Süper Lig matches during spells with Karabükspor and Fenerbahçe. His rise in Turkish football was dramatic. Emenike first impressed in the lower divisions before exploding in the top flight with his strength, speed and aggressive style.
At Fenerbahçe, he helped the club win the Süper Lig and Turkish Super Cup in 2014. That success came shortly after he helped Nigeria win the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations in South Africa.
Michael Eneramo: 35 goals

Late Nigerian striker Michael Eneramo scored 35 goals in 115 league appearances across spells with Sivasspor, Beşiktaş and İstanbul Başakşehir.
Eneramo built a reputation for clever movement and calm finishing inside the penalty area. His strongest years came with Sivasspor, where he regularly troubled defenders from Turkey’s biggest clubs.
In April 2026, tragedy struck when Eneramo reportedly collapsed during a friendly match and later died from a suspected cardiac arrest at the age of 40.
Paul Onuachu: 37 goals

Paul Onuachu has become one of Trabzonspor’s most feared forwards after scoring 37 goals in only 51 league games. The tall striker first joined the club on loan from Southampton in September 2023 and scored on his debut against Beşiktaş.
After briefly returning to England, Trabzonspor completed a permanent deal for him in 2025.
During the 2025-26 season, Onuachu scored 22 league goals and shared the Süper Lig Golden Boot with Eldor Shomurodov. His aerial dominance and clinical finishing quickly turned him into a fan favourite in Trabzon.
Victor Osimhen: 41 goals

Victor Osimhen needed only two seasons to become one of the deadliest Nigerian strikers in Turkish football history. The Galatasaray striker has already scored 41 league goals in just 52 matches.
After leading Napoli to the Serie A title, Osimhen joined Galatasaray on loan in 2024 and immediately dominated the league, scoring 26 goals to finish as top scorer.
He later completed a permanent €75 million transfer, making him the most expensive signing in Turkish football history.
On 24 January 2026, he became the fastest player in Galatasaray history to reach 50 goals, doing so in only 59 matches.
Anthony Nwakaeme: 42 goals

Anthony Nwakaeme scored 42 league goals in 155 appearances across six seasons with Trabzonspor. The powerful winger joined the club in 2018 after a successful spell in Israel with Hapoel Be’er Sheva.
Nwakaeme became one of Trabzonspor’s most important players, helping the club win the 2021-22 Süper Lig title, their first league crown in decades.
His strength, creativity and composure made him a nightmare for defenders. As he prepares to leave the club, Trabzonspor supporters already regard him as a legend.
Isaac Promise: 65 goals

At the top of the list stands Isaac Promise, Nigeria’s greatest goalscorer in Turkish Süper Lig history. Promise scored 65 league goals in 271 matches across 11 seasons in Türkiye.
He represented clubs including Gençlerbirliği, Trabzonspor, Antalyaspor and Manisaspor.
Although he never lifted the league title, his power, movement and consistency made him one of the most admired Nigerian forwards in Turkish football.
Promise died in 2019 at the age of 31, but his place in Turkish football history remains secure.
