For the first time since the days of Arsène Wenger’s famous “Invincibles”, Arsenal are champions of England again,” Soccernet.ng reports.

The North London club sealed the 2025/26 Premier League title on Tuesday night after a dramatic chain of events that finally ended a painful 22-year wait for the crown they last won in the 2003/04 season.

Mikel Arteta’s side defeated Burnley 1-0 on Monday in a tense encounter to move closer to the title, but confirmation only arrived the following day when closest challengers Manchester City were held to a 1-1 draw by AFC Bournemouth at the Vitality Stadium.

With one round of matches left, the north Londoners moved four points clear at the top on 82 points, making it mathematically impossible for Pep Guardiola’s side to catch them.

After finishing second behind Manchester City and Liverpool for three straight seasons, Mikel Arteta's men finally found the consistency and calmness needed to cross the finish line. Arteta’s team built their success on a rock-solid defence led by William Saliba and Gabriel Magalhães, while goalkeeper David Raya finished the campaign with 19 clean sheets to secure a third consecutive Golden Glove award.

The Gunners were also deadly from set-pieces throughout the season, scoring 19 goals from corners, the highest tally ever recorded in a single Premier League season.

Summer signing Viktor Gyökeres added firepower in attack alongside Bukayo Saka, Kai Havertz and Leandro Trossard, while teenage sensation Max Dowman became the youngest player ever to win a Premier League medal at just 16 years old.

The official trophy presentation will take place on Sunday after Arsenal’s final league game away to Crystal Palace. However, celebrations could become even bigger before the month ends, with Arsenal now preparing for a UEFA Champions League final showdown against Paris Saint-Germain in Budapest on May 30.

How famous Nigerians celebrated Arsenal’s title triumph

Across Nigeria, Arsenal supporters poured onto social media almost immediately after the title became official. For many fans, it was a release of emotions built over more than two decades of disappointment, heartbreak and near misses.

Among the first to react was legendary former Arsenal striker Nwankwo Kanu, who played a major role during the club’s golden era under Wenger.

Kanu posted: “KAN U believe it??? Arsenal Forever. The Gunners worked so hard for this. Difficult but they fought. Very well deserved. Come on you Gunners.”

Former Barcelona, Arsenal and Liverpool star Asisat Oshoala also celebrated the achievement. She wrote: “22yrs no b beans oo…. Arsenal deserve am. I’m glad they won this early, more rest period for them ahead of the UCL final.”

Former Nigerian vice-president Atiku Abubakar praised the club’s resilience after years of falling short.

He wrote: “Congratulations to Arsenal on a well-deserved Premier League victory. This title is a testament to resilience, discipline, teamwork, and the courage to keep believing even when the odds seemed difficult. As a proud supporter, tonight is special. Well done to the players, the manager, and the incredible fans who never stopped believing. North London is red again.”

Business mogul Tony Elumelu also joined the celebrations. The chairman of United Bank for Africa shared a video of himself wearing an Arsenal shirt while walking on a treadmill to the soundtrack of “Stand Up for the Champions.” His caption simply read: “EPL champions 2026.”

Award-winning singer Tiwa Savage posted: “Congratulations to Us Arsenal, The champions of England.”

Popular Fuji musician Wasiu Alabi Pasuma shared a dancing video while writing: “We did it after 22 years. Congratulations to my fellow Arsenal fans. UP GUNNERS. Victory party coming soon.”

Nigerian-American superstar Davido also became one of the biggest talking points online after announcing his return to supporting Arsenal.

The singer, who had switched allegiance to Manchester United during Arsenal’s difficult years, posted: “Back a Gunner.”

His message sparked mixed reactions from supporters, but rapper Odumodublvck welcomed him back warmly, replying: “Me and you never fight before. No be today e go start. I accept you back.”

Nigeria’s Minister of Aviation Festus Keyamo also celebrated passionately, writing: “After 22 long years, we are FINALLY CHAMPIONS!! UP GUNNERS!! Kudos to Man City that pushed us all the way!! It makes it even sweeter!!!”

Perhaps the most dramatic celebration came from Victor Boniface. The Bayer 04 Leverkusen striker announced a giveaway of one-and-a-half million naira for Arsenal supporters online.

Boniface wrote: “My first ever football jersey na arsenal ooo. And na my mama buy am for me complete set with socks and boot self. Since then na gunners ooo.

“Make 1 arsenal fan drop acct for 1.5m. Make you share.”

For Arsenal supporters in Nigeria and around the world, the long wait is finally over. And with a Champions League final still ahead, Arteta’s side now have the opportunity to turn a memorable season into the greatest campaign in the club’s history.
