Super Eagles striker Tolu Arokodare has expressed his disappointment with the Wolves' loss to Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium, Soccernet.ng reports.

Arokodare, after the game, revealed that Wolves’ late collapse was very hurtful after he had scored a historic Premier League goal in a dramatic 2–1 defeat to Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium.

The Nigerian striker rose highest to head home a 90th-minute equaliser, becoming the first Nigerian to score a Premier League goal for Wolverhampton Wanderers, briefly cancelling out Arsenal’s earlier opener.

However, Wolves’ joy was short-lived, as a stoppage-time own goal handed the hosts all three points.

“It’s been happening all season” — Arokodare reacts

Speaking after the match, the Super Eagles star cut a frustrated figure, insisting Wolves’ problems late in games have become a worrying pattern.

“It’s been happening to us the whole season,” he said. “We played very well for the full 90 minutes and then at the end we concede again. I don’t really know how to explain it, but it’s very painful.”

Arsenal vs Wolves: Late drama at the Emirates

Arsenal took the lead in the 70th minute through an own goal from the Wanderers goalkeeper Sam Johnstone following a corner.

Wolves showed resilience and held their shape and frustrated the league leaders before the forward’s powerful header restored parity late on.

But deep into stoppage time, Wolves’ resistance finally broke when defensive pressure resulted in another own goal, which condemned them to yet another narrow defeat.

Despite the disappointment, Arokodare noted several positives from the performance, particularly against a side sitting top of the Premier League table.

“We played against the best team in the league,” he said. “Their first goal was very lucky from a corner. We came back into the game, and even though they scored late again, there are still a lot of positives to take.”

Arokodare makes Premier League history for Wolves

The goal marked Arokodare’s maiden strike in England’s top flight, and put an end to a difficult scoring run for Wolves.

“We have to score more goals,” the striker added. “We haven’t scored a lot in the last few games, but it’s something we’ve been working on. We have the quality. Hopefully in the coming games we’ll score more goals and everything will change.”

There had been debate over whether former Nigeria international Seyi Olofinjana previously held the record for a Nigerian goalscorer at Wolves.

While Olofinjana scored several goals during his time at Molineux between 2004 and 2008, those came outside the Premier League. This confirms the Nigerian’s place in the club’s top-flight history.

Wolves now turn their attention to an upcoming clash with Brentford as they look to convert improved performances into much-needed points.
