Super Falcons forward Uchenna Kanu has officially ended her spell at Racing Louisville FC, bringing to a close a three-year stint at the club, Soccernet.ng reports.
Louisville confirmed Kanu’s departure on Friday, 26 November, while releasing its list of returning and departing players ahead of the 2026 National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) campaign. The 28-year-old is one of six players who will enter free agency and will not be re-signed for the new season.
Uchenna Kanu joined Louisville in February 2023 after a high-profile move from Tigres UANL, signing a two-year deal with an option for an additional year. Her arrival was widely seen as an ambitious step for a club still building its identity in the NWSL. She made 19 appearances in her debut season, starting seven, and scored her first goal in the Challenge Cup against the Chicago Red Stars on 31 May.

Uchenna Kanu’s Racing Louisville legacy
In 2024, the Nigerian forward delivered her most productive spell in Louisville colours, recording five goals in 12 appearances.
Uchenna Kanu standout moment came with a sensational six-minute brace against the Portland Thorns, still one of the fastest in club history. But her season was cut short after a knee injury sidelined her for the last two months.
Kanu returned for the 2025 season, contributing seven appearances and one goal as Louisville secured their first-ever NWSL Playoff berth, set a new club record for wins, and delivered their most complete campaign to date. That historic breakthrough, however, coincided with another knee setback that ruled her out of the second half of the season.
In its farewell message, Racing Louisville wrote:
“Part of the Racing family forever. We want to wish all our departing players the very best and thank them for their dedication and passion for the club.”
Kanu leaves with a global résumé few African footballers can match. Having already played in Spain, Sweden, Mexico and the United States, and becoming the first African footballer to feature in Liga MX Femenil, her next move will be closely monitored by fans in Nigeria and beyond.
The forward has been a mainstay of the Super Falcons since making her senior debut in 2019. She has featured at the 2019, 2023, and 2024 FIFA Women’s World Cups, represented Nigeria at multiple youth levels, and earned a place in the squads for the 2022 WAFCON and 2024 Olympic Games.
Her journey, from selling oranges and hawking drinks on the streets of Aba to competing at the highest levels of football, remains one of Nigerian football’s most inspiring modern stories.
