Did a Katsina United fan “slit” Barau FC player’s “throat”? What really happened to Nana Abraham

A shocking story circulated that a fan of Katsina United had slit the throat of Barau FC midfielder Nana Kwame Abraham, Soccernet.ng reports.

The reports quickly spread across social media and sparked outrage among football fans, raising concerns about stadium security in Nigeria.

The incident was said to have occurred moments after Barau FC equalised, with play briefly halted as the player was allegedly attacked.

Many outlets reported that Abraham’s throat had been “slaughtered” in a horrifying act of violence by an enraged supporter. However, further clarification from the player himself paints a different picture.

The Ghanaian midfielder for Barau FC, Abraham, has come forward to debunk the shocking claims.

What Was Previously Reported

Following the match, news outlets and social media users widely circulated claims that a Katsina United fan had invaded the pitch and slit the throat of Nana Abraham after Barau FC equalised.

The initial reports suggested a brutal, life-threatening attack, which created widespread alarm and outrage.

Barau FC’s official updates confirmed that play was temporarily halted, but details of the incident remained unclear, which led to speculation and sensationalised reporting.

Barau FC's Nana Abraham Debunks the Claim

Speaking about the incident, Abraham clarified exactly what happened:

“That is a false statement. My throat was never slaughtered. It was during the course of the match when we equalised our goal, the fans of Katsina United started throwing objects towards our bench and due to that cause, an object hit my, my chest and, lower off my shin. That's when, I, I saw blood coming out. So that's what happened, and not slaughtered rather.”
