3-time Europa League winners, Tottenham set for Lookman battle amid Atalanta fallout

Super Eagles forward Ademola Lookman has recently sparked exit speculations following his recent social media activity where he unfollowed Atalanta's official page….

Atletico Madrid have reportedly joined Tottenham Hotspur in the race to sign Super Eagles forward Ademola Lookman, Soccernet.ng reports.

The Atalanta star edges closer to a possible January exit from Bergamo following his recent touchline exchange with former Southampton boss Ivan Juric.

According to reports from Fichajes, Lookman continues to attract strong interest from top European clubs following recent developments surrounding his strained relationship with Atalanta.

The Nigerian forward has unfollowed the club on Instagram and archived all his photos in an Atalanta jersey, which has triggered his growing frustration and desire to leave the club.

Lookman attracting interest from Atletico Madrid & Tottenham

Atletico Madrid are the latest club to express serious interest in the 2024 CAF Player of the Year, joining Tottenham Hotspur, who have been monitoring his situation closely ahead of the January transfer window.

Both clubs view the Nigerian as an ideal attacking reinforcement due to his pace and eye for goal.

Lookman was close to sealing a move away from Atalanta last summer, with Inter Milan reportedly leading the race at the time.

However, negotiations collapsed after the two clubs failed to agree on a transfer fee, with the difference said to be only a few million euros.

Growing tension in Bergamo

Lookman’s current stance stems from months of internal friction with the Atalanta hierarchy and a tense relationship with manager Ivan Jurić.

The forward was recently involved in a heated touchline exchange with Jurić during Atalanta’s 1-0 victory over Olympique Marseille, which sparked debate in the Nigerian football community about his treatment at the club.

Lookman's frustration dates back to the era of former coach Gian Piero Gasperini, who once publicly criticised him for missing a penalty.

The current situation under Jurić has only worsened matters and has prompted speculation that Lookman may force a move in the upcoming January transfer window.

Premier League return or La Liga switch?

A move to Diego Simeone’s Atletico Madrid could be a major step up for Lookman, who has proven his quality in Italy and in his time in England with Leicester City and Everton.

However, a return to the Premier League with Tottenham Hotspur might also appeal to the 28-year-old, given his familiarity with English football and Spurs’ attacking style under Thomas Frank.

With the Nigerian boasting 53 goals and 25 assists since joining Atalanta, both clubs see him as a valuable addition who can make an immediate impact.
