I’m better suited to Bundesliga football – Super Eagles and Brentford midfielder Frank Onyeka

Super Eagles midfielder Frank Onyeka believes that his style of play is best suited for the German Bundesliga, Soccernet.ng reports.

Onyeka spent last season on loan at Bundesliga club Augsburg. He made the move from Brentford due to a lack of playing time under then-coach Thomas Frank.

At Augsburg, he quickly secured a regular starting spot, going on to feature in 31 of their 34 league games, and registering one assist.

However, he was required to return to Brentford in the summer because there was no option-to-buy clause included in his loan contract.

Also, given that most Bundesliga clubs are not financially buoyant, it's likely Augsburg would not have been able to afford a permanent deal for him.

This season, Onyeka has again struggled for consistent game time. All of his Premier League appearances for Brentford have been as a substitute; his only starts this season have come in the EFL Cup.

Onyeka recently spoke about his time in Germany and admitted it was a really important period in his career, as it helped him grow.

He also noted that the Bundesliga is more physically demanding, as players don't get much time on the ball, unlike in the Premier League.

“People often say that in the Bundesliga, players run a lot compared to the Premier League. When I got there, I felt it. They always want to go forward with every ball,” Frank Onyeka said, per Brentford's official website.

“In the Premier League, teams know when to calm the game, when to move and when to play some passes before going forward; in Germany, teams just want to go forward at every opportunity.

“It suited me really well; I love to go forward and track back. It was good for my game.”

Onyeka will be hoping that he earns a regular starting shirt under Keith Andrews as soon as possible.

The Super Eagles star has a contract that runs until 2027. Perhaps if Brentford don't give him an extension, he could consider another stint in Germany.
