German Onugkha sent a clear message about his quality and availability for Nigeria's Super Eagles after scoring twice in Kayserispor’s 2-2 draw away to Fatih Karagümrük in the Turkish Super Lig on Friday night, Soccernet.ng reports.
The 29-year-old forward turned the game around for Kayserispor with two goals in six second-half minutes after Sam Larsson’s early penalty had given the hosts the lead in the 16th minute.
Onugkha’s quickfire double in the 68th and 74th minutes momentarily put the visitors in control, before Atakan Cankaya equalised for Karagümrük in the 79th minute.
Kayserispor’s evening took another twist when Laszlo Benes was sent off deep into stoppage time, leaving both sides to settle for a point.
Despite creating the better chances, Kayserispor were once again left frustrated, registering eight shots on target compared to Karagümrük’s three, but failing to convert their dominance into victory.
Onugkha’s brace takes his tally to three goals in six appearances this season and marks back-to-back scoring games following his goal in last weekend’s 3-1 defeat to Samsunspor.
However, Kayserispor remain winless after seven matches, with four draws and three losses so far.

German Onugkha: When will Nigeria's Super Eagles call the Russian-born forward?
Born in Moscow to a Russian mother and a Nigerian father, German Olegovich Onugkha’s story has long been one of dual identity.
The powerful centre-forward has previously played for Rubin Kazan, Krasnodar, and Danish giants FC Copenhagen, and has never hidden his desire to represent Nigeria at international level.
In late 2024, Onugkha made headlines when he turned down a call-up from Russia for their friendlies against Thailand and Vietnam, instead expressing interest in donning the green and white of Nigeria.
Speaking after a friendly for FC Copenhagen at the time, he explained his decision:
“I decided to say no [to Russia’s call-up] because I wanted to focus on my next club, my future, and therefore I said that it would be better for me to stay here in Europe.
“During the next month I will try to get a Nigerian passport because my father is from there. So I will go to the Embassy here in Copenhagen and see if I can get it, then we will see.”

Since then, the striker has yet to receive a call-up from the Super Eagles, but his current form in Turkey could reignite discussions within Nigeria’s coaching setup, particularly as the team prepares to face Gabon in Morocco next month.

With forwards such as Kelechi Iheanacho, Terem Moffi and Cyriel Dessers nursing injuries and Tolu Arokodare restricted to substitute appearances at Wolves, Onugkha’s consistent performances may offer Nigeria an intriguing new attacking option.
Head coach Eric Chelle, however, boasts several other options at his disposal with Victor Osimhen, Paul Onuachu, and Akor Adams all in top form at the moment.
