Super Eagles midfielder Christantus Uche has tagged Benjamin Fredrick as the best center-back in the world, Soccernet.ng reports.
Fredrick has been impressive for the Super Eagles since he made his debut during the Unity Cup in June. Since then, coach Eric Chelle has fallen in love with him, and he has become a stalwart in the defence.
During the just-concluded international break, Fredrick was one of the standout performers for Nigeria. He had to fill in as a right-back due to the absence of Ola Aina and Bright Osayi-Samuel, and he did well, despite playing out of position.
At just 20 years of age, the Dender man is very calm on the ball, technically astute, and a ruthless tackler.
His performance has drawn praise from most of his Super Eagles teammates, as he is the youngest player on the team.
But the biggest of them came from Crystal Palace midfielder Uche. The former Getafe man posted a picture of Uche on Instagram and captioned it, “You don't have anything to tell me, my best center-back in the world.”
Benjamin Fredrick: Can He Continue To Shine For The Super Eagles?
Benjamin Fredrick's performances have come at a crucial time for the Super Eagles because of the lack of top quality backs.
As it stands, aside from Fredrick, Fulham star Calvin Bassey is the only quality center-back in the Super Eagles fold. William Troost-Ekong and Semi Ajayi are growing older and have not been convincing in recent games.
Fredrick will now look to continue building his game. Luckily for him, he is at Belgian club Dender, on loan from English Premier League club Brentford. So the pressure is low, and he can continue to grow there.
With his talent, he could become one of the country's most reliable players in the coming years.
