Former Super Eagles captain Sunday Oliseh has weighed in on Liverpool’s 1-0 victory over Arsenal at Anfield, Soccernet.ng reports.

The former Juventus star, on X (formerly Twitter), praised two standout performers while expressing disappointment in Arsenal striker Viktor Gyökeres.

The clash, decided by Dominik Szoboszlai’s stunning late free kick, saw Liverpool move to the top of the Premier League table.

Arsenal impressed in the first half with their pressing and possession but failed to translate dominance into goals, managing just one shot on target before being undone by Liverpool’s decisive moment.

Taking to his official X handle, Oliseh said Arsenal looked the better side overall before conceding but credited Liverpool for defending resolutely and taking their chance.

“I feel Arsenal looked the better side all round prior to conceding, though Liverpool managed the game better defensively and did the most important; Scored!” he wrote.

Two Standouts, One Flaw

The former Borussia Dortmund midfielder further described Eberechi Eze and Florian Wirtz as two big assets to their respective teams.

However, Oliseh was critical of Gyökeres, who has yet to hit top form since arriving from Sporting Lisbon in the summer.

The Swedish striker struggled to trouble Liverpool’s back line, which the former Super Eagles captain admitted he expected better from the forward in such a crucial fixture.

He added: “Eze for Arsenal and Wirtz for Liverpool are true big assets. Sadly, I cannot say the same for Viktor Gyökeres at the moment! I expected better”

The defeat has reopened debates about Arsenal’s ability to step up in big games, with pundits like Gary Neville also questioning the team’s mentality after their first loss of the season, per Sky Sports.

The result nudged Liverpool to an early advantage in the league picture and left Arsenal reflecting on missed opportunities despite spells of promise.
