Super Eagles of Nigeria's victory over Rwanda in Saturday's 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier marked a special day for three Nigerian stars who made their competitive debut, Soccernet.ng reports.

The 2013 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) champions secure three points at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium, thanks to a 51st-minute goal from Wolverhampton Wanderers FC striker Tolu Arokodare.

In the game, Cyriel Dessers, Arokodare, and Benjamin Fredrick all crossed an important line in Uyo, becoming cap-tied to Nigeria after featuring in the critical clash.

Cyriel Dessers

The former Rangers striker replaced Victor Osimhen in the 35th minute after the Napoli man was forced off with an injury.

Having previously featured only in eight friendly games, Dessers’ cameo against Rwanda officially tied him to Nigeria under FIFA rules, which ended any possibility of switching allegiance to Belgium.

Tolu Arokodare

Introduced in the 46th minute for Frank Onyeka, Arokodare made an instant impact. The former Genk forward latched onto a loose ball in the box and calmly slotted home the decisive goal.

This sealed a victory for the Super Eagles and also made him the Man of the Match in his competitive debut.

Benjamin Fredrick

At 20 years old, Fredrick was trusted from the start and rewarded Eric Chelle’s faith with a composed display at the back.
