Former Super Eagles winger and current Rivers United head coach, Finidi George, has backed Kelechi Iheanacho to rediscover his best form following his move to Scottish champions Celtic, Soccernet.ng reports.

Iheanacho joined Celtic on a free transfer earlier this week after his contract with Sevilla was terminated by mutual consent.

The Nigerian striker endured a difficult spell in Spain, managing just three goals in 11 appearances during the 2024/25 campaign before being loaned to Middlesbrough, where he scored once in 15 outings.

For the former Ipswich Town forward, however, the switch to Glasgow could be the turning point the forward has been waiting for.

“Kelechi is a proven talent, and I think Celtic is the perfect stage for him to show that again,” Finidi told Footy-Africa. “Sometimes players just need the right environment, a club that believes in them. He’s got the quality, and I believe he will deliver.”

The 54-year-old, who famously won the UEFA Champions League with Ajax in 1995, believes Iheanacho’s experience in the Premier League with Leicester City and his stint in La Liga with Sevilla will be invaluable in Brendan Rodgers’ squad.

“Celtic play attacking football, and Kelechi thrives in that kind of setup,” Finidi continued. “It’s not easy to come back after a tough spell, but great players always find a way. He has the hunger, and this is his chance.”

Iheanacho arrives at Celtic at a crucial moment, with Rodgers’ side needing attacking reinforcements after Adam Idah’s departure, per the Scottish Sun.

The 28-year-old forward is expected to be registered in time for Celtic’s Europa League campaign, which would offer him an immediate platform to re-establish himself in Europe.
