Former Super Eagles goalkeeper coach Ike Shorunmu has expressed support for Wilfred Ndidi amid ongoing reports linking the Leicester City midfielder with a move to Turkish giants Beşiktaş, Soccernet.ng reports.

The former Fussballclub Zürich goalkeeper has urged the Nigerian international to make the best decision for his career.

Speaking to Footy-Africa, Shorunmu acknowledged the pressures that come with transfer decisions but believes Ndidi is experienced enough to choose what’s best for himself at this stage of his career.

What Has Been Said By The Ex-Super Eagles Coach

“I believe Wilfred knows what he is doing and will do what is best for himself and his career at this stage of his life,” Shorunmu said.

“Transfers are not an easy thing to be fair, so I hope he takes the best decision possible. It is entirely up to him to decide whether to stay or go.

For me, I will not mind if he takes his game to Turkey because it is also a good league, as I have played there before. I wish him all the best in whatever decision he takes.”

Ndidi is on the verge of leaving Leicester City after the club reportedly accepted an improved €9.5 million bid from Beşiktaş.

The Turkish outfit had an earlier €7 million offer rejected, but returned with a fee closer to Ndidi’s €9 million release clause, activated following the Foxes’ relegation from the Premier League.

Will Ndidi Leave Leicester?

While the Nigerian international signed a contract extension in 2024 to remain at the King Power Stadium until June 2027, he has remained open to a move, with interest also coming from clubs in Germany, Italy, Saudi Arabia, and notably Manchester United.

Per Onefootball, citing Fanatik, the 27-year-old player has been invited to Istanbul to undergo a medical and agree on personal terms ahead of a proposed three-year deal with an optional fourth year at Beşiktaş.

Shorunmu Eye Successful Stint In Turkey

Shorunmu, who spent time in the Turkish Süper Lig during his playing career with the likes of Beşiktaş and Samsunspor, believes the move could benefit Ndidi.

If the deal goes through, Ndidi will join a growing list of Super Eagles players in Turkey, including Victor Osimhen, who recently joined Galatasaray from Napoli.

As of press time, neither Leicester City nor Beşiktaş have officially confirmed the transfer.
