KRC Genk and South Korean striker, Hyeon-gyu Oh, has set his sights on equalling the goal record set by Super Eagles striker Tolu Arokodare, Soccernet.ng reports.
Arokodare scored 23 goals and provided five assists in 45 games for Thorsten Fink's side last season, winning the league's golden boot as 21 of his goals came in the Belgian Pro League.
The 24-year-old has been a bit-part player this season, as it is expected he'll leave Genk for greener pastures in the coming weeks.
Hyeon-gyu Oh eyes Arokodare‘s record
Ex-Belgium goalkeeper, Jacky Mathijssen, revealed Oh was promised a starter's role this season, and the former Celtic striker made it clear that Arokodare's goalscoring record is what he's aiming for.
“It was hard for me [to be Arokodare's second choice] because you want to play,” the 24-year-old said in quotes revealed by HLN.
“In the end, I accepted that I was the second man behind Tolu, and I was waiting for my chance. The coach assured me that my moment was coming this season and asked me to stay.
“Tolu became top scorer with 21 goals, I want to match that. Although I think more is possible. I usually get two or three big chances per game. If I score each match once or twice, it can work out.”
“Feyenoord is a very good club. I have also been there a few times and love Rotterdam, but I love Genk and life here.
“The coach, staff and players know each other well. They know how I play, which makes it easier and better with a view to the World Cup next summer. I absolutely want to be there,” Oh concluded.
