The possibility of Cyriel Dessers joining AEK Athens have grown increasingly slim, as the Greek Super Lig club have signed Luka Jovic from AC Milan, Soccernet.ng reports.
This summer, Dessers' future has been in question, as he has been linked with multiple clubs. But Greek giants AEK Athens seem like the most likely destination.
AEK Athens finished second in the Greek top flight last season, but they would have probably done better if they had a proper point man.
While league champions Olympiacos had Ayoub El Kaabi, who chipped in with 15 goals, Anthony was AEK Athens' highest goalscorer with six goals.
As such, they made signing a top striker their priority coming into the summer.
The speculations have gone on for over a month, but nothing concrete has emerged yet. Dessers even featured prominently for Rangers during their preseason.
He was also part of Rangers' opening game of the season, which they drew against Motherwell on Saturday.

According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, AEK Athens have completed the signing of Luka Jovic from AC Milan.
Per TransferMarkt, the Serbian striker joined the Rossoneri after failed stints with Fiorentina and Real Madrid. He used to be one of the best strikers in the world during his days at Eintracht Frankfurt, but he dropped off badly since joining Real Madrid in 2019.
His signing invariably means that AEK Athens will not sign another striker this summer.
As such, he will likely stay at Rangers. The Super Eagles star already stated his desire to remain with the Gers since last season. They have not won the Premiership for about three years, and Dessers will look to end the drought.
