Super Eagles star Christantus Uche’s incredible rise from Spain’s third tier to top-flight standout has sparked major Premier League interest, with Newcastle United and Aston Villa closely monitoring the Getafe star this summer, Soccernet.ng reports.

The 22-year-old Nigerian midfielder joined Getafe last July from AD Ceuta for just €500,000 — an investment that now looks like one of La Liga’s most inspired buys of the last 12 months.

Uche has since blossomed into one of the league’s most dynamic and versatile midfielders, registering 4 goals and 7 assists across 38 appearances in the 2024–25 campaign.

Operating both as a central midfielder and as a second striker, Uche's blend of strength, pace, and tactical intelligence has not only earned him regular minutes under manager José Bordalás but also elevated his market value to a reported €15–20 million. And with a €25 million release clause set to kick in soon, Premier League clubs are circling.

Getafe president Ángel Torres confirmed that Uche is eager for a move to England. Speaking to Diario AS, Torres said:

“Uche doesn’t even know what he wants. He has offers from Serie A, but he wants to leave only if he goes to the Premier League, I don’t know why. This week we will meet with him and see him.”

Super Eagles starsGetafe would be reluctant to lose their midfield gem, but the financial windfall could help Bordalás reinforce the squad ahead of next season.

Ceuta, meanwhile, are also set to benefit, with the lower-division club holding a 12–20% sell-on clause — potentially worth €2.5–4 million if the deal reaches €20 million.

Uche’s rise hasn’t gone unnoticed in international circles either.

Despite visa issues delaying his arrival at Nigeria’s Unity Cup camp in London, Uche made a dramatic senior debut in the final against Jamaica.

Coming on as a second-half substitute for Cyriel Dessers, he scored the decisive penalty in a tense shootout win, impressing Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle.

“It was very difficult for Uche because he only arrived on Friday, and I still included him in the group,” Chelle told Austin Okon Akpan in June.

“It was a crazy decision because, under normal circumstances, he shouldn’t have played in that game. I don’t even know why I put him in the squad. But he wanted to play, and when he stepped onto the pitch, he brought something really important.”

Uche’s composure under pressure also stood out, with coach Chelle admitting the young midfielder's international career was on the line in the win against Jamaica.

“He’s strong and fast. Just imagine — all that pressure, the final penalty,” Chelle added.

“If he had missed, who knows? Everyone is happy now that he scored, but if he hadn’t… maybe it would’ve affected his national team career. I’m proud of him because he came in with a smile and a lot of energy.”

With Newcastle United and Aston Villa lurking, the Premier League could be the next stage where Uche continues to showcase his abilities.
