Former Super Eagles midfielder Mutiu Adepoju has urged in-form Super Eagles winger Ademola Lookman to consider away from Atalanta, Soccernet.ng reports.

Adepoju, who was a key member of Nigeria’s historic 1994 Africa Cup of Nations-winning squad, shared his views on Lookman’s career in an exclusive chat with Footy-Africa,

The former Real Sociedad player suggests that the Atalanta forward has outgrown his current environment in Italy, and a move away from Bergamo should be considered.

What Has Been Said?

“Of recent, Lookman has done very well for Atalanta and the national team, the Super Eagles,” Adepoju said. “And I think if he continues with Atalanta, it won’t be a bad thing. But if he has to move, I would like to see him in a bigger club either in La Liga or the Premier League. He has done greatly and deserves to play in a bigger club — and I believe he will make it anywhere.”

Lookman was one of the standout players in Serie A last season, registering 15 goals and five assists in 31 appearances. Overall, Lookman netted 20 goals and provided seven assists in 40 appearances for the club.

It would also be recalled that he netted a famous hat-trick in the Europa League final to help Atalanta beat Bayer Leverkusen and lift the title.

Perfect Timing For Lookman?

Although the Nigerian international still has two years remaining on his contract, Adepoju believes now is the perfect time for him to seek new challenges.

“Despite having a contract with them (Atalanta), I think the time is ripe for him to move to another league as I do not think he has anything else to prove in Italy,” Adepoju added. “Lookman needs a new adventure to take him to the next level. And even if he remains with the Italian side, it will not be a bad idea. But I do not mind him seeking greener pastures elsewhere next season.”

Lookman has been linked with a move away from Atalanta, with Liverpool, Manchester United, Paris Saint-Germain and a host of other top clubs vying for his signature.
