Swedish-Nigerian winger Jeremy Agbonifo has sealed a permanent move to Ligue 1 side RC Lens following a successful loan spell from BK Häcken, Soccernet.ng reports.

The 19-year-old joined Lens on loan in January 2025, with a purchase option built into the deal. That clause has now been activated, with the French club finalising a permanent transfer for the talented teenager. The initial loan was worth €1 million, with a €6.5 million obligation to buy triggered by Lens remaining in Ligue 1.

Agbonifo, who is of Nigerian descent but represents Sweden at youth level, made an immediate impact after arriving in France, scoring just a minute into his debut against Montpellier. He went on to make eight Ligue 1 appearances, netting once and impressing Lens officials with his pace, dribbling, and composure on the ball.

Jeremy Agbonifo: From BK Häcken to RC Lens

Speaking about his move, Agbonifo paid tribute to BK Häcken, the club that shaped his early career:

“BK Häcken is Sweden's best development club in my opinion. They gave me a chance, trusted me, and allowed me to show what I could do. Hisingen will always feel like home to me.”

Agbonifo returned to Häcken last season and registered six goals and three assists in 22 appearances before securing his loan move to Lens.

BK Häcken’s sporting director Martin Ericsson hailed the move as a validation of the club’s youth development model.

“Jeremy is a prime example of the kind of player we aim to develop. This transfer shows that our system works—both in terms of footballing quality and financial sustainability.”

Despite leaving Sweden, Agbonifo remains closely connected to his roots. He recently visited Häcken’s Gothia Park Academy, reflecting on the club’s continued success and nurturing environment.

“It’s always good to be back. I hope BK Häcken keeps producing top talent and continues to succeed.”

Agbonifo's move to RC Lens follows in the footsteps of two former Nigeria internationals, Wilson Oruma and John Utaka.

The Nigerian with the most appearance at the club, Utaka registered 33 goals in 126 games across all competitions for Lens before leaving for Stade Rennais FC in 2005.

With his permanent transfer now complete, Lens will be hoping Agbonifo’s promising rise continues as he looks to establish himself in one of Europe’s top leagues.
