Ikorodu City star Harrison Austin is confident that coach Eric Chelle can guide Nigeria to win the 2024 CAF African Nations Championship (CHAN).
The 8th edition of the continental competition kicks off this weekend with Nigeria one of the 19 teams billed to battle for the top prize.
Nigeria have never won the CHAN tournament but the home-based Eagles have been sharpening their focus far from the public eye.
Head coach Eric Chelle has been building his team quietly but confidently first in the serene city of Ikenne-Remo and now in the tranquil setting of Zanzibar.

With Group D clashes against reigning champions Senegal, resilient Congo, and a revitalised Sudan looming large, Nigeria’s Super Eagles B know the scale of the challenge.
Chelle didn’t guide the team through qualification, but the Malian is steadily shaping the group's purpose and identity.
Austin, who registered a goal and eight assists in the NPFL last season, has noted the improvement the Eagles have made in a short time.
Speaking after a goalless warm-up draw against Zanzibar, Austin revealed how Chelle has instilled a culture of accountability and progress.
“As a team, we always talk about the competition and about improving,” Austin said as per CAFonline.
“The coach sees our lapses, points them out, and we make corrections — even among ourselves, we hold short meetings to review how to do better. And it shows.”
Austin also praised Chelle’s approachable nature, noting the impact it’s had on his development.
“He gives room to ask questions. Even when I don’t immediately understand his instructions, he’s patient. That gives me the freedom to learn and improve. It’s easier to pick up what he wants.”
Nigeria’s Eagles finished runners-up in 2018 but have yet to lift the CHAN trophy. This year, there’s a quiet sense that it could finally be their moment.
“I love the spirit of the guys,” Austin added.
“We’ve all promised ourselves to give everything to win the trophy. It’s our collective target.”
Nigeria’s first game in the CHAN is against defending champions Senegal on August 5 in Amaan Stadium, Zanzibar City.
