Super Falcons of Nigeria have intensified their preparations with two friendly matches lined up ahead of the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) tournament, Soccernet.ng reports.

The Nigerian women’s national team will first face Portugal in Lisbon next week in a key warm-up fixture.

Meanwhile, Nigerian Journalist, Samuel Ahmadu, further reveals that the team will then travel to Morocco, the host nation of WAFCON 2024, where they are scheduled to square off against West African rivals Ghana in what promises to be another heated Jollof derby.

These fixtures serve as part of the final build-up before the Super Falcons kick off their WAFCON campaign against Tunisia on July 6 in Casablanca.

Nigeria has been drawn into Group B alongside Tunisia, Algeria, and Botswana.

With nine WAFCON titles from 12 editions since the tournament's official inception by CAF in 1998, the Super Falcons remain Africa’s most decorated national football team—male or female.

The team heads to Morocco with the singular goal of securing a historic 10th continental crown, under the banner of “Mission X.”

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has expressed strong backing for the team’s quest. Speaking from the United States on Tuesday, NFF General Secretary Dr Mohammed Sanusi reaffirmed the federation’s full support:

“We are committed to fully supporting the Super Falcons’ campaign for a 10th continental title, and that is why we are launching the Mission X campaign to sensitize football-loving Nigerians at home and in the diaspora, young and old, in high and low places, male and female, to also come out and support the team.” he said as cited by NFF Comms.

Sanusi further emphasised the importance of fan support throughout the journey:

“We want the Super Falcons to feel the energy of our football-passionate fans everywhere they go, from Abuja to Casablanca, where they will play their group stage matches, and at any other venue they have to play their knockout games in Morocco.”

The Super Falcons will be hoping their solid preparations and support from fans will help them reclaim the WAFCON title, last won in 2018.
