Rangers head coach, Russell Martin, has quelled news about the exit of Super Eagles forward, Cyriel Kolawole Dessers, Soccernet.ng reports.

The 30-year-old forward boasts a decent goalscoring record at Ibrox, but his inconsistency in front of goal has seen fans at the club turn on him time and again.

Dessers was linked an exit away from Rangers during the January transfer window, but instead, he remained at the club and turned things around, winning the SPFL Golden Boot.

Soccernet.ng previously reported that the former Cremonese striker had agreed a £30,000-a-week deal with Greek Champions, AEK Athens, with only an agreement with Rangers left in the works.

However, Rangers' new boss has come out to debunk talks of the Nigerian's exit, revealing he's looking forward to working with Dessers.

“No, I don't think I can say anything about his [Dessers] future. The updates will come as and when they are actually real.

“So, at the minute, I'm expecting him to return on Monday and I'm looking forward to working with him,” the ex-Southampton boss said in an interview with Sky Sports Scotland.

Southampton suffered relegation from the English Premier League after parting ways with Russell Martin mid-season, but the former Scotland International has put all that behind him and is excited about life in Rangers.

“It's been everything I thought it would be. It's been intense, it's been great. The real work starts on Monday, and that's what I love – getting back on the grass.

“That's what any coach loves. I'm excited about what's going to come. The challenges, and everything. Now we have to build a team we're all connected to and like watching,” the 39-year-old concluded.

While Dessers' future remains in question, he's still in sheer joy after signing a long-term deal with his partner, Rosalie Deruysscher, marrying her in Italy after the Unity Cup.
