“AEK Athens and Olympiakos want to talk” – Super Eagles star confirms summer transfer looms
  • Nigeria Super Eagles' Unity Cup hero may be ready for a Greek challenge after spells in the Netherlands, Belgium, Italy, and Scotland

Super Eagles striker Cyriel Dessers has confirmed interest from Greek powerhouses AEK Athens and Olympiakos, with a potential summer move now firmly on the cards following an impressive campaign with Rangers, Soccernet.ng reports.

The 30-year-old forward, who has enjoyed a nomadic but productive career across Europe’s top leagues — from the Eredivisie to Serie A, the Jupiler Pro League to the Scottish Premiership — appears to be weighing up his next move as the transfer window gains momentum.

Following a standout season for Glasgow Rangers in which he scored 29 goals and provided 7 assists in 55 appearances across all competitions, Dessers has drawn admiring glances from several clubs.

However, it is AEK Athens and Olympiakos Piraeus who have taken concrete steps.

“With my statistics, it is normal that there is interest,” Dessers told the Scottish media as per VoetbalKrant.

“I have also heard that AEK Athens and Olympiakos want to talk,” he continued. “But now I want to enjoy my holiday.”

Dessers’ form hasn’t been limited to club football.

The striker also played a pivotal role in Nigeria's recent Unity Cup triumph in London, scoring against Ghana and setting up a goal against Jamaica as the Super Eagles clinched their first piece of silverware in over a decade.

Despite the buzz surrounding a potential move to Greece, Dessers insists he’s in no rush to leave Ibrox.

“I still have two years of contract with a fantastic club like Rangers. I don't have to leave,” the forward added.

Super EaglesWhile speculation continues, the striker has taken a step back from international duty, requesting to be excused from Nigeria’s upcoming friendly against Russia in Moscow.

Reports suggest he is preparing to tie the knot with his fiancée in the coming days.

Whether the next chapter in Dessers’ career will play out under the Scottish rain or the Mediterranean sun remains to be seen. But what’s clear is that one of Africa’s most consistent goal scorers is firmly in demand once again.
