WAFCON: CAF confirms where and when Nigeria will face Tunisia, Botswana, and Algeria

Nigeria’s Super Falcons

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has officially confirmed the match schedule for the delayed 2024 TotalEnergies CAF Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), set to take place in Morocco from 5 to 26 July 2025, Soccernet.ng reports.

Nigeria’s Super Falcons, Africa’s most successful women’s national team, will begin their campaign on Sunday, 6 July, against Tunisia.

The Group C encounter is scheduled to be held at the Larbi Zaouli Stadium in Casablanca, with kick-off set for 17:00 local time (16:00 GMT).

Justine Madugu’s side will remain in Casablanca throughout the group stage. Their second match will be against Botswana on 10 July, followed by a third and potentially decisive group fixture against Algeria on 13 July — all to be played at the Larbi Zaouli Stadium.

The tournament will kick off a day earlier on 5 July with hosts Morocco taking on Zambia under the lights of the newly constructed Olympic Stadium in Rabat. That opener is set for a 21:00 local time start.

The knockout rounds begin with the quarter-finals scheduled for 18 and 19 July. The semi-finals will follow on 22 July, while the third-place match and the final will be held on 25 and 26 July respectively — with the final to be played at Rabat’s Olympic Stadium.

The first will take place this Saturday at the Remo Stars Stadium in Ikenne-Remo, followed by a return fixture at the MKO Abiola Sports Complex in Abeokuta next Tuesday. Nigeria are also scheduled to meet Portugal in another preparatory clash on 23 June.

The Super Falcons remain a dominant force on the continent. With nine WAFCON titles — their most recent in 2018 after edging South Africa in a tense final — they have set the standard in African women’s football. They also remain the only African women’s side to have reached the quarter-finals of both the FIFA Women’s World Cup and the Olympic Games.Nigeria’s Super Falcons coach Madugu and captain Ajibade

Remarkably, Nigeria are one of just a few nations worldwide — and the only one in Africa — to have qualified for every edition of the FIFA Women’s World Cup since its inception.
