Super Eagles head coach, Eric Sekhou Chelle, has revealed he excused some big names from the Nigerian squad ahead of the Unity Cup to give an opportunity to newer faces, Soccernet.ng reports.

The three-time AFCON Champions will play against the Black Stars of Ghana on the 28th of May at the Gtech Community Stadium, but their head coach excused big names like Ademola Lookman and Victor Osimhen.

Eric Chelle included ten NPFL players, giving Ahmed Musa another chance to prove himself in the green and white colours of Nigeria.

“We have a lot of players in Nigeria, so we need to give chances to them so they can show us their quality, so it's difficult for me to talk or think about anything else.

“What I can tell you is we're focused, we want to win. We have a project, as a group, we want to create an identity, so we need to put some players who can learn quickly and get into the team.

“The Unity Cup is a great tournament to try out some players or try out some systems to be ready in September. I was in Nigeria, and I watched a few games in the league, and I analysed these players. It is my job, and I think they have some quality, and they deserve to have a chance,” the Frenchman said in an interview with the NFF.

“I'm sure they'll bring a lot of energy, aggressiveness, intensity, to play for this jersey. I picked ten players from the NPFL, and I tell you they're very good players.

“I think Ahmed [Musa] is a very great player, I think every Nigerian knows that, it's a fact, I think he can bring his quality and experience. So my vision is just like the other players, to give him a chance, so he needs to take that and who's us what he can do. If he plays well, he stays. I think there's a lot of pressure on him to perform,” Eric Chelle concluded.
