Ex-Super Eagles coach with one AFCON title appointed in supreme body that makes football rules

Former Super Eagles coach Sunday Oliseh has been appointed into the International Football Association Board (IFAB), the body that makes football laws rules and laws, Soccernet.ng reports.

Since retiring from football in January 2006, Oliseh has stayed busy. He was the sports director at Eupen in 2007 before moving on to coach Vervietois in 2008. Then, he worked at Fortuna Sittard and SV Straelen afterwards.

Asides from his work with these clubs, he has also worked with FIFA, football's world governing body on different projects.

Now, the 50-year-old Oliseh has revealed that he has been appointed to join IFAB. He announce this via a post on X on Monday.

“Thrilled to announce my appointment to the International Football Association Board (IFAB),” Oliseh wrote.

“IFAB is the global guardian of football’s laws, responsible for determining the laws of football, shaping the beautiful game for players and fans worldwide. Honored to contribute to its mission.”

What is IFAB, and how did Sunday Oliseh get in?

IFAB are in charge of making or changing the rules/laws of football. It is made up of the four British football associations (England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland) and four members from FIFA to represent the 207 member Nations.

Part of IFAB is the FAP and TAP, which are advisory panels. The FAP, Football Advisory Panel, which Sunday Oliseh has been appointed into, is made up of retired players and coaches, that support The IFAB’s Technical Subcommittee in the decision-making process.

The TAP is the Technical Advisory Panel, and it is made up of leading refereeing experts.

Aside from Oliseh, some notable football names in the FAP are Daniel Amokachi, Arsenal Wenger, Esteban Cambiasso and Luis Figo.
