It’s a warm summer evening in West London, and the Unity Cup has served up a cracking finale.
At the Gtech Community Stadium in Brentford, two teams from different continents meet under a shared banner of football pride.
It’s Nigeria versus Jamaica — Eric Chelle’s exciting Super Eagles against a spirited Reggae Boyz side led by the vastly experienced Steve McClaren.
Nigeria edged out their West African rivals Ghana in a tightly contested 2-1 semi-final win, and now, the Unity Cup defending champions eye a successful title defence against a Jamaica side still buzzing after a dramatic 94th-minute penalty sent them past Trinidad and Tobago.
While Jamaica’s journey has been defined by grit, Nigeria’s has been about rediscovery — a blend of young promise and veteran steel under their new Franco-Malian boss.

GK: Maduka Okoye returns in goal
After missing the Ghana game due to a late arrival in camp, Maduka Okoye is in contention for a first start under Chelle.
The Udinese shot-stopper brings European pedigree and excellent shot-stopping ability.
While Stanley Nwabali was decent against Ghana — with a couple of sharp saves and some nervy moments — Okoye is likely to be handed the gloves for this one as Chelle rotates slightly ahead of the September World Cup qualifiers.
Back four: Ismaila shines, Ajayi doubtful
At right-back, Remo Stars’ Sadiq Ismaila has staked his claim for more regular action.
After a stellar NPFL season capped by his title-winning heroics, he brought pace, tenacity, and an assist in the semi-final. Expect him to retain his spot.
In central defence, question marks hang over Semi Ajayi’s fitness.
The West Brom defender looked commanding against Ghana but missed training in recent days. If fit, he starts. If not, Chelle is likely to hand a debut to Rangers’ 21-year-old Ifeanyi Onyebuchi alongside Igho Ogbu.
Ogbu, Nigeria’s standout defender in the win over Ghana, was composed and authoritative despite one risky pass. The Slavia Prague centre-back looks a solid option whether Ajayi starts or not.
Bruno Onyemaechi continues to own the left-back slot. The Olympiacos full-back combines energy with positional discipline.
With Felix Agu not expected to feature due to an agreement with Werder Bremen, Onyemaechi is a shoo-in once more.

Midfield diamond: Ndidi or Onyeka in the pivot?
Wilfred Ndidi is the heart of Chelle’s diamond system, but the Leicester man could be carrying a knock after missing a training session. He looked sharp in the first half against Ghana before fading, and Chelle might manage his minutes carefully.
Should he be rested, Brentford’s Frank Onyeka, who impressed as a midfield disruptor in midweek, could anchor the base.
In the creative tip of the diamond, 20-year-old Papa Daniel is quickly becoming a fan favourite. The Niger Tornadoes midfielder was a surprise starter against Ghana but justified Chelle’s gamble with clever movement and crisp passing. His growing chemistry with Chukwueze and Dessers could see him start again.
Frank Onyeka and Chukwueze could play on the sides of the diamond depending on how aggressive Chelle wants to be.
If Ndidi plays, Onyeka likely shifts slightly to the left, with Chukwueze, who was brilliant against Ghana, starting as a hybrid midfielder/winger on the right.
Enugu Rangers livewire Isaac Saviour could earn his Super Eagles debut should Onyeka drop further back on the field.
Attack: Dessers the spearhead, Simon or Tella alongside
Up front, it’s hard to look past Cyriel Dessers after his excellent performance in the semifinal. The Rangers forward tormented Ghana’s defence with his strength, movement, and work rate, and topped it with a goal — his third for Nigeria.
Who partners him is the bigger puzzle.
Moses Simon, though off-colour against Ghana after his introduction from the bench, has the speed and experience to trouble Jamaica’s high line.
However, Bayer Leverkusen’s Nathan Tella is fresh and has been effective in a second-striker role for both club and country. After being benched midweek, Tella could get his turn.
Expect Tolu Arokodare, Genk’s towering striker, and Sikiru Alimi to come off the bench. Kelechi Iheanacho remains a wildcard but may again play a watching brief.
