Former Super Eagles forward Brown Ideye has confirmed that he is leaving former Nigeria Premier Football League champions Enyimba, Soccernet.ng reports.

Ideye was one of the stars of Nigeria's squad that went on to win the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations. The former West Brom star proved to be quite lethal playing behind Emmanuel Emenike, who was the highest goalscorer in that tournament.

Ideye moved to Europe in 2008, joining Swiss club Neuchatel Xamax and grew steadily from there. He went on to play for clubs like Dynamo Kyiv, Olympiacos, West Brom, Malaga, and Goztepe.

The former Super Eagles also played for Kuwaiti club Al Yarmouk. But he didn't stay long there and eventually returned to Nigeria. It seemed like the 36-year-old forward was set to retire.

However, at the turn of the year, Ideye announced that he was joining Nigerian giants Enyimba.

The former Super Eagles star has spent the last six months at the club, contributing five goals in 13 appearances across all competitions.

Unfortunately, Ideye could not help a struggling Enyimba side, as they were knocked out of the CAF Confederations Cup in the group stages and finished 6th in the NPFL, 16 points behind champions Remo Stars.

Now that the campaign has ended, Ideye has confirmed that he is leaving Enyimba.

Brown Ideye's message to Enyimba

The former Super Eagles star is very active on X, and he shared a message to Enyimba and the club's fans, appreciating them for their love and support.

“To the Chairman, Staff, my teammates and fans of Enyimba FC thank you for the wonderful journey,” Brown Ideye wrote.

“It’s been an honour to wear the jersey and play for one of the biggest and best football club in Nigeria and Africa.

“As I move on, I’m grateful for the fond memories we created together on and off the pitch, and I appreciate the love, respect and support you all gave me from day one.

“This club will always have a great place in my heart. With Love and Appreciation.

To the Chairman, Staff, my Team Mates and Fans of @EnyimbaFC thank you for the wonderful journey. It’s been an honour to wear the jersey and play for one of the biggest and best football club in Nigeria and Africa.

Ideye has not revealed his next move, but he is surely edging closer to retirement as he will be 37 this October. It is unlikely that he will join a club abroad.
