Flying Eagles captain, Daniel Bameyi, delivered a standout performance in Nigeria’s goalless draw against Morocco at the U-20 Africa Cup of Nations, Soccernet.ng reports.
The three-cap Super Eagles and former Yum Yum FC defender scooped the Man of the Match award on a night when defensive solidity was key. The 19-year-old was a rock at the heart of Nigeria’s backline with composure and intelligent positioning.
Bameyi marshalled the defence effectively, especially during moments of Moroccan pressure, which ensured that the Flying Eagles kept their second clean sheet of the tournament.
What Can Be Key to Bameyi’s MOTM Performance?
Experience has played a key role in Bameyi’s display thus far in the competition. The defender came to the limelight as one of the youngest U-20 players in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations tournament and, in fact, captained the side to third place in the competition.
Not only that, the youngster earned Jose Peseiro’s invite to play with the Super Eagles just after his outstanding performance for the Ladan Bosso-led side in the U-20 competition.
Now, returning to the competition again, Bameyi has gained solid experience as the years go by, and he now knows how to control his defence and understands what the competition is really all about.

With the solidity of the Flying Eagles and the control of the game from the backline, it is no surprise that Bameyi was named the Man of the Match in the game.

Although, per Flashscore, Morocco fired four shots with none on target, it can be said that Bameyi played a key role in ensuring Nigeria's defence remained well guarded.
