The Super Eagles of Nigeria returned to 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying action with back-to-back matches against Rwanda and Zimbabwe, Soccernet.ng reports.
Although the games—a win against Rwanda and a draw against Zimbabwe—featured a mixed bag of individual performances and a collective effort, they were not enough to boost their World Cup hopes.
Osimhen’s goals were crucial during their World Cup qualifying campaign, with his three goals being the only goals scored in the matches, putting him on track to challenge Rashidi Yekini’s all-time Super Eagles goal record.

However, other players have also made an impact with their goals, and in 2025, they continue to contribute to the team’s scoring efforts. Here’s a look at the top five goal scorers in the current Super Eagles squad.
1. Victor Osimhen (Galatasaray)
Nigeria’s leading goal machine continues to live up to the hype. Osimhen scored three goals across the two 2026 World Cup qualifiers — a brace against Rwanda and a composed finish against Zimbabwe.

2. Alex Iwobi (Fulham FC)
Despite being one of the Premier League’s top chance creators this season, Iwobi struggled to make an impact during the international window.

3. Moses Simon (FC Nantes)
The Nantes winger remains a consistent presence in the team, known for his assists. Simon featured in both qualifiers but didn’t score. But, he maintained a record of nine goals in 72 appearances for the national team.

4. William Troost-Ekong (Al-Kholood Club)
Troost-Ekong returned to action for the Super Eagles with his usual composure at the back. He anchored the defence through both matches but, as expected, didn’t get on the scoresheet. The centre-back now stands at seven goals in 71 appearances — impressive numbers for a defender.

5. Ademola Lookman (Atalanta BC)
Still growing into his role with the national team, Lookman featured in both games but couldn’t add to his goal tally. His ability to break defenses remains an asset, and his international record currently stands at Six goals in 23 appearances.
