Super Eagles striker Sadiq Umar got off the bench to score the vital equalizer for Valencia in their 1-1 draw against Rayo Vallecano at the Campo de Futbol de Vallecas on Saturday, Soccernet.ng reports.

Spanish striker Hugo Duro reclaimed his place in the starting 11 while Sadiq started from the bench when Valencia travelled to Rayo Vallecano. After an impressive March, Sadiq had failed to score in his last three games, allowing Duro to regain his starting shirt.

In the first half of the encounter, Valencia gave a good account of themselves, registering five goal attempts, but they failed to score. Unfortunately, they conceded an own goal with just one minute left in the first half, courtesy of Cesar Tarrega.

After failing to score in the opening 20 minutes of the second half, coach Carlos Corberan introduced Sadiq in place of Andre Almeida. That decision proved to be vital, as the Super Eagles star scored the equalizer within ten minutes of his introduction, and it was quite a unique one.

Sadiq got on the end of a low cross and slid to flick the ball towards goal. But the ball hit the upright and returned to him while he was still on the floor. Then he used his head to control the ball and just nudged the ball into the net to make it 1-1 after 77 minutes.

Sadiq had a chance to create another goal in the 77th minute, but his final ball just failed him. After 90 minutes, the game ended 1-1, with Sadiq grabbing his fifth goal for Valencia. According to Opta, in just 12 appearances, he has scored just one fewer than in his previous 38 matches in La Liga for Real Sociedad and Almería.

Sadiq Umar to miss Valencia’s next game

Sadid Umar got a yellow card in the 90th minute of the game after committing a bad foul. This means that he will miss Valencia’s next game against Espanyol at the Mestalla due to an accumulation of cards.
