Former Super Eagles and Chelsea star Mikel Obi has congratulated Liverpool following their title win on Sunday, Soccernet.ng reports.

The Reds clinched their 20th top-flight title on Sunday after demolishing Tottenham 5-1 at Anfield. Spurs scored the first goal of the game courtesy of Dominic Solanke, but goals from Luis Diaz, Alexis Mac Allister, Cody Gakpo, Mohamed Salah, and an own goal from Destiny Udogie sealed the victory for the Reds.

The win took the Reds to 82 points, 15 points above second-place Arsenal. And with just four games left, it would be mathematically impossible for Arsenal to meet them.

It is Liverpool’s first title win since 2020. And it is a big deal for the club after coming second multiple times in previous years.

Former Super Eagles midfielder Mikel Obi spent 11 years with Chelsea, who have a big rivalry with their Merseyside counterparts. Nonetheless, the 38-year-old star took to social media to congratulate the Reds.

Mikel wrote on Instagram, “Congratulations to Liverpool fc on winning the Premier Leagye trophy.”

Although Arne Slot’s men have clinched the Premier League trophy, the continental spots are yet to be decided.

Arsenal, Manchester City, Newcastle United, Chelsea, and Nottingham Forest are all looking to qualify for the Champions League.
