Super Eagles stars Alex Iwobi and Ola Aina have taken to social media to reassure the Nigerian football community that the team is still on course to qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, Soccernet.ng reports.
The draw on home soil dealt a blow to Nigeria’s qualification hopes, which leaves the 2013 AFCON champions fourth in Group C with seven points from five matches—six points behind group leaders South Africa.
In a bid to lift the spirits of the football fans, Fulham star Iwobi posted a faith-filled message via his Snapchat story, writing:
“We’ll make [the] World Cup in the mighty name of Jesus.”
Shortly after, Nottingham Forest full-back Ola Aina also wrote something similar on his own social media page to assure the fans.
“We will make this WC.” the former Torino FC player wrote.
This comes as a morale boost for Nigerian football faithfuls, many of whom were left frustrated by the team’s late collapse against Zimbabwe.

Galatasaray forward, Victor Osimhen, had put the Super Eagles in front with a powerful header in the 74th minute, only for Tawanda Chirewa to equalise in the 90th minute for the visitors.
While pressure continues to mount on the squad ahead of the final qualifying games, Nigeria continue to chase a ticket to participate in the 2026 World Cup in the USA, Canada, and Mexico.
The best Nigeria can secure in that group is second best. The equaliser was an embarrassment to the Nigerian captain who was easily dribbled by the Zimbabwean player to score. I believe the problem with the SE is beyond a Coach. The team needs total rejuvenation and some younger players need to be invited to strengthen the team especially in the defence area. Only a miracle can see Nigeria getting the World Cup ticket.
let’s not be fooled. The nightmare is over. They gave it there worst shot and we were always going to be dead by delivery date. This new system of playing players out of position has us looking like African fools. Who is this Mali man trying to impress. When a player played a certain role week in week out at his club, simple common sense dictates that is his comfort zone so bloody well play his there. Calculators out as usual.
You can only qualify by miracle, it is not advisable to put one trust in the team to avoid HBP. You lead Zimb to 90min before you blew the victory. Thank you for the courageous promise
