Kelechi Iheanacho is excited about his new challenge at Middlesbrough but has not ruled out a return to Sevilla, insisting he has “unfinished business” with the Spanish club, Soccernet.ng reports.

The Nigeria international joined Boro on loan until the end of the season, following a difficult spell at Sevilla. Despite his brief time in Andalusia, the former Leicester City forward has fond memories of the club and remains open to the possibility of returning.

“I'm very excited to be here. It's a wonderful place. I'm happy to be here,” Iheanacho said during his unveiling at Middlesbrough as per TF.

However, he made it clear that Sevilla still holds a special place in his heart.

“It's good to get out, to feel in a different environment. Sevilla is a great club. I've loved my experience there. It's a great team, and I'll be delighted to return there,” he added.

Iheanacho struggled for game time at Sevilla following the arrival of fellow Nigerian Akor Adams from Montpellier, as well as manager García Pimienta's increased trust in Isaac Romero.

The 28-year-old hopes his experience in English football — having spent seven years at Leicester City — will help him thrive in the Championship once again.

“I am here now. I am focused on what I can achieve here. I can't wait to get started. It's a good club, and the Championship is a great league. We have a good team,” he said.

Middlesbrough boss Michael Carrick is confident Iheanacho’s quality and experience will be vital as the club pushes for promotion.

“We're delighted to get Kelechi in. His quality is pretty obvious, and he knows what it takes to be successful at this level from last year. He played in the Premier League for a number of years. He’s a quality, quality player, and we’re really happy to have him,” Carrick told the Northern Echo.

Iheanacho joined Sevilla on a free transfer last summer, signing a two-year deal with an option for a third.

Middlesbrough will cover 80% of his €2 million annual salary, with additional bonuses in place should the club secure promotion to the Premier League.
