Osimhen has registered 11 goals and four assists in just 14 Super Lig matches, helping Galatasaray maintain their position at the top of the Turkish league despite the absence of injured talisman Mauro Icardi.
However, the league leaders stumbled to a disappointing 1-1 draw against Hatayspor, a team languishing in 18th place in the 19-team Super Lig, over the weekend.
Osimhen scored Galatasaray’s only goal to continue his red-hot form, but the Super Eagles forward was visibly displeased as his team dropped two valuable points.
Reports suggest that Osimhen even led a crisis meeting with senior teammates in the dressing room to address the team’s lackluster attitude in what was considered a must-win match.
Former Galatasaray player Gökmen Özdenak defended Osimhen’s frustrations, agreeing the team could have performed much better against a struggling opponent.
“Galatasaray cannot send the balls they want to Osimhen,” Özdenak said as per GS Gazete.
“Icardi is a player who plays more with his teammates, but Galatasaray’s other wingers and full-backs should feed Osimhen. I see that he is starting to get angry. He is a little right.
“Under normal circumstances, the Hatayspor-Galatasaray match could have ended 7-0 or 8-0, but it did not. These things exist in football. You beat Göztepe and Başakşehir, and then you drop two points to Hatayspor. This is how things are. The calculations at home do not match the market.”
Despite remaining unbeaten in the league, Galatasaray have drawn three games this season and sit only six points ahead of José Mourinho’s Fenerbahce.
The Istanbul giants will face Fenerbahce on February 23 in a clash that could prove decisive in the race for the Turkish title.
