Several Super Eagles stars, including Bruno Onyemaechi and William Troost-Ekong, were in action for their clubs in Europe and the Middle East on Monday, January 20, 2025. Soccernet.ng captures the most eye-catching moments in their matches.
Portugal
Bruno Onyemaechi was the star of the show for Boavista but his excellent contribution was not enough to help his club avoid a 3-2 home defeat to Casa Pia in the Portuguese Primeira Liga.
Onyemaechi delivered one of his best performances for Boavista as he scored a goal and assisted another in the encounter.
Casa Pia were already two-nil up when Onyemaechi stabbed home from close range, off a rebound in the 45th minute, to reduce Boavista’s deficit.
The visitors regained their two-goal lead through French man Jérémy Livolant shortly after the interval before Boavista were reduced to ten men following the sending off of Pedro Gomes.

Onyemaechi, however, laid the final pass for Róbert Boženík to smash home the home team’s second goal in the third minute of stoppage time.
Boavista have now lost each of their last three games and are rooted to the bottom of the league table, four points from safety.
However, Onyema is enjoying the best time of his football life as he has now notched three league goals in a single campaign for the first time in his career.
The Nigerian left-back, who has been linked with an exit from Boavista with Turkey’s Trabzonspor interested, has previously played for Feirense and Vila Real, both in Portugal.
Saudi Arabia
In the Saudi Premier League, Super Eagles captain William Troost-Ekong suffered another disappointing evening as his Al Kholood stumbled to a tough 1-0 defeat at Al Fayha.
Nigeria international Henry Onyekuru made his first appearance of the season for Al Fayha, after returning from the injury that had sidelined him since last April.
Last term, Onyekuru scored ten league goals in 27 games for Al Fayha.
At the King Abdullah Sports City Stadium, Nigerian winger Saviour Godwin featured for 89 minutes to help Al Okhdood power to a fantastic 2-0 away win over Al Raed.
Turkey
Anthony Nwakaeme was one of the best players on the pitch as Trabzonspor forced a 4-0 Super Lig defeat down the throat of Sivasspor inside the Papara Park in Trabzon.
Three goals in the opening 30 minutes confirmed Trabzonspor’s superiority. After Congo DR’s Simon Banza missed a second-half penalty, Nwakaeme set up English man John Lundstram to bag the fourth goal for the brilliant hosts.
In the 1 Lig, Oghenekaro Etebo was a Dynamo in midfield as his contributions lifted Gençlerbirliği to a fine 1-0 home win against Kocaelispor.
Etebo has started 19 of Gençlerbirliği’s league games this season.
