“We will get our points no matter what” – Super Eagles defender confident of victory despite Libya airport delay

Super Eagles and Crawley Town defender, Benjamin Tanimu, has revealed he’s unfazed by how the Libyan authorities are treating the Nigerian team, Soccernet.ng reports.

The 22-year-old central defender was on the bench in Nigeria’s 1-0 win against the Mediterranean knights last Friday, thanks to a late goal from Lazio midfielder, Fisayo Ayodele-Bashiru.

Tanimu recently joined third-tier English side, Crawley Town from Tanzania side, Ihefu Sports club. He’s yet to play a game for his new side, hinting that he’s still got a bit of work to do regarding his fitness.

Following Nigeria’s win at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo, the Super Eagles travelled to Benghazi for their away clash against the Libyans, but were redirected to an airport outside of the jurisdiction they were to land.

Furthermore, they’ve been held hostage by the Libyan authorities for twelve hours and counting without food, internet, and sleep.

The former Bendel Insurance defender took to his X page to share videos of the ugly scenes in Libya , tweeting with the caption “Libya, Una well done o, but we go still collect our point no matter wetin Una go do.” This simply means – “Well done, Libya. No matter what you do, we’ll get our points regardless.”

However, Super Eagles captain, William Troost-Ekong, has revealed the team will no play the game against Libya due to the ridiculous treatment they were subjected to, as reported by Soccernet.ng.

The Nigerian Football Federation are now making arrangements for the team to return home.
