Super Eagles striker Taiwo Awoniyi has stated that the team is targeting victories in their upcoming 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers double-header against Libya, Soccernet.ng reports.
After picking four points from their first two games of the AFCON Qualifiers against Benin and Rwanda, the Super Eagles are looking to exert a firmer grip on Group D when they play Libya in the next few days.
Nigeria welcome the Mediterranean Knights to the Moshood Abiola Stadium in Abiola on Friday before traveling to Benghazi for the second leg just three days later.
The Super Eagles are favorites heading into both games games, especially the first leg in Uyo. Of course, this is due to their pedigree on the continent and the array of stars at the disposal of Augustine Eguavoen.
Ahead of the game, Nottingham Forest striker Awoniyi, who missed out on the first round of games, has expressed confidence in the Super Eagles’ chances of defeating Libya over the two legs.
“It’s a great privilege and I think every player that is here is ready for the task for sure. Nothing but winning for the fans,” Awoniyi said.
“We’ve known each other for years now, and we’ve gotten to see each other again. All the players are excited about it, and for sure, we are ready for the game.”
If Nigeria can defeat Libya in both legs, that would all but seal their qualification for the 2025 AFCON.
