“We have to be ready” – What Augustine Eguavoen said ahead of Super Eagles vs. Rwanda clash

Super Eagles interim head coach, Augustine Eguavoen, has shared his thoughts ahead of Nigeria’s crucial 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Rwanda, set for tomorrow at the Stade Amahoro in Kigali, Soccernet.ng reports.

The former KAA Gent defender, who also serves as the Nigeria Football Federation Technical Director, emphasised that the Super Eagles will approach the Wasps with the utmost respect while remaining focused on securing all three points.

“We have the quality of players who can play different styles of football, different systems, and formations. So, whatever formation we choose tomorrow, we have the personnel to execute it effectively,” Eguavoen stated.

With Nigeria’s 2023 AFCON silver medals in mind, Eguavoen acknowledged the high expectations from fans and the nation.

He added: “Our country is full of expectations. It doesn’t matter who we play—people expect us to win. We approach every opponent with respect, and that’s how we will handle Rwanda.”

The former Sunshine Stars head coach went on to caution against complacency, reminding his team of the evolving nature of football.

“You don’t look down on anybody these days because football has improved. So when you joke with it, you can get shocked. But we will be on our feet. Remember, any country trying to play against Nigeria always tries to raise its game. So, we have to be ready as well.” he stated.

Nigeria comes into this match off the back of a convincing 3-0 victory over Benin Republic just two days ago at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo.

The Super Eagles will aim to carry that momentum into Kigali, as they look to strengthen their campaign for a place in the 2025 AFCON tournament.
