Former Nigerian international Taye Taiwo has expressed his excitement following Olympique Marseille’s signing of former Manchester United target Adrien Rabiot, Soccernet.ng reports.
Rabiot, who recently signed a two-year deal with Marseille after leaving Juventus in July, caught Taiwo’s attention as a significant addition to the club.
The former Super Eagles defender, played over 270 matches for Marseille between 2005 and 2011, scoring 25 goals and providing 23 assists.
“During the night, I saw that Rabiot was arriving at our place! I said to myself, did he make a mistake or what? I didn’t understand anything!” Taiwo remarked humorously. “I hope things will go well for him in Marseille. He’s a great player with great talent. We need him to make a difference. We expect a lot from you, my boy!” he added.
The former Pa who also spent time at Paris Saint-Germain, had previously admitted to enjoying watching Olympique Marseille as a child. The Frenchman revealed that, between the ages of 10 and 12, he admired players like Mamadou Niang, Toifilou Maoulida, and Taiwo.
“When I was younger, I liked watching OM, when I was 10–12 years old, when there was Mamadou Niang, Toifilou Maoulida, and Taye Taiwo. I liked watching Marseille, as I liked watching other teams,” Rabiot fondly recalled.
Rabiot’s return to Ligue 1 with Marseille means he will now don the same colours as his childhood idols, hoping to make an impact similar to theirs.
