Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has firmly dismissed speculation surrounding a potential move for Super Eagles star Victor Osimhen, affirming his confidence in the current squad, Soccernet.ng reports.
The North London club had been heavily linked with a move for the Nigerian international, who is reportedly considering a departure from Napoli following the club’s recent acquisition of Romelu Lukaku from Chelsea.
Ahead of Arsenal’s upcoming clash with Aston Villa, Arteta addressed the rumours, emphasising the depth and quality of his attacking options.
The Spanish manager made it clear that the club’s focus remains on developing the talent they already possess rather than seeking new additions.
“We have some great strikers. Gabi [Gabriel Jesus] is there, Kai [Havertz] has played there for a lot of minutes, Leo [Leandro Trossard] has played there, and we believe we have all the necessities as well. We fully trust our players.
“We want to get better for sure, and we will try, but we are going to try with the players that are already with us.” he said, as quoted by Independent UK.
With Arteta ruling out a move for Osimhen, Chelsea now stands as the sole English Premier League club with a serious interest in securing the services of the prolific Nigerian forward.
Chelsea, on their part, remains in a strong position to sign Osimhen without breaching Financial Fair Play (FFP) regulations, especially after offloading Romelu Lukaku, one of the club’s highest earners.
