Trabzonspor end Onuachu pursuit, eye ex-Man United forward instead

Trabzonspor has decided to shift their focus from Nigerian striker Paul Onuachu and is now pursuing former Manchester United forward Wout Weghorst, Soccernet.ng reports.

The sluggish negotiations between Trabzonspor and Southampton for Onuachu have proven challenging and frustrating for both sides.

Reports indicate that Southampton is holding firm on their asking price of €10 million, while Trabzonspor's offer of €5 million plus €2 million in add-ons has not met their expectations.

“Southampton is not moving from their €10 million valuation, and Trabzonspor’s offer of €5 million plus €2 million is not acceptable. We can consider the book closed on Onuachu.” Haluk Ayyıldız, a commentator on the 61-Hour Sports Hour program, confirmed.

With the Onuachu deal seemingly off the table, Trabzonspor is now intensifying their efforts to secure Wout Weghorst.

“Trabzonspor has accelerated negotiations for Wout Weghorst and is in detailed discussions about his transfer fee. The player is reportedly asking for €2.5 million, and while the final terms are still being worked out, the deal for Weghorst is moving forward.” Ayyıldız noted.

This development means that Onuachu will not be joining his fellow Nigerian, Anthony Nwakaeme, who recently signed with Trabzonspor. The Turkish club is now focussing on bolstering their squad with Weghorst as they prepare for the upcoming season.
