Super Eagles striker Sadiq Umar could be in trouble at Real Sociedad after he posted a picture of his his middle finger on his social media page, a gesture which is generally termed as insulting, Soccernet.ng reports.
Sadiq’s future has been in the balance this summer due to his inconsistency at Real Sociedad. The Laliga side signed him from Almeria last summer in a club-record €20 million deal.
Unfortunately for him, the deal has not panned out as he would have hoped. The 27-year-old striker sustained an anterior cruciate ligament injury in just his third game for Real Sociedad, and that kept him out of action two seasons ago.
Sadiq eventually returned to action last season at Real Sociedad, but he struggled to return to his best form.
Coach Imanol gave his game time in the first half of the campaign, but it reduced significantly by the end of the season, as the former Almeria man could only produce three goals and one assist in 36 appearances across all competitions.
Due to his situation, there have been talks that Sadiq will leave Real Sociedad this summer, with Getafe touted as a likely destination. But nothing concrete has emerged yet.
Meanwhile, on sunday, Sadiq caused a controversy after a post on his social media page. The Super Eagles star shared the picture of a middle finger, which generally means “f*** you”.
The real reason for this remains unknown, but hablemosdelaliga noted that it could have been a reply to Real Sociedad after the club allegedly told him that his services were no longer needed.
Nonetheless, just minutes later, Sadiq deleted the post and shared another post, apologizing for the first post, while stating that it was not aimed at anyone.
This is not the first time Sadiq will be posting something controversial on his social media. Recall that in 2022 he shared a post warning Nigerian fans against bullying him online.
Real Sociedad are yet to say anything about the post, but if it was aimed at them, it would strain an already tough relationship between both parties.
which serves as a testament to their expertise and commitment to excellence.
Sadiq Umar’s actions highlight the importance of professionalism, especially during uncertain times. Social media posts can escalate tensions—hope both parties find a resolution for the benefit of his career.
