Some Super Eagles players have been facing abuse on social media since they lost the final of the AFCON, but Umar has sent a strong warning to the perpetrators
Super Eagles striker Sadiq Umar has sent a stern message to cyber bullies warning them to refrain from abusing him, Soccernet.ng reports.
The Super Eagles had a decent run to the final of the just concluded 2023 Africa Cup of Nations. Unfortunately, they succumbed to a painful 2-1 loss to Cote d’Ivoire in the final.
Following that loss, some members of the team have experienced abuse from fans on social media, notably Alex Iwobi and Ola Aina.
Iwobi had to archive his posts on Instagram to reduce the abuse he was getting. Meanwhile, other Super Eagles players and staff have rallied behind him amidst the insults and abuses.
In a new development, Real Sociedad striker Umar, who was initially part of Nigeria’s squad for the AFCON, has shared a stern message on his Instagram page. He has warned that he will insult whoever insults him on social media.
“I no even play, you con dey insults me. Abeg oo, me I no be Iwobi, I go insult person papa with him mama join. Yes, I be that typical Hausa boy, abi you see fear for my eye”, Umar wrote on Instagram.
“Pushing someone into depression and mental breakdown. Yet you want life to be better for you, e no fit ever better for una! Vagabonds!!!”
It is not the first time Nigerian players will suffer abuses on social media. Every time Nigeria lose a game, many fans descend to insults and curses. However, it is not just a Nigerian thing; even players in Europe go through the same experience.
