Perth Glory have bolstered their defence by signing Nigeria international Onyinyechi Zogg for the upcoming 2024-25 Liberty A-League season, Soccernet.ng reports.
The 27-year-old defender has agreed to a one-year deal with the Australian club, bringing with her a wealth of experience from European football, the club announced.
Zogg, born in Switzerland to a Swiss father and a Nigerian mother, has an impressive resume that spans several top European clubs.
She has previously played for Young Boys, FC Zürich, and Servette FC in Switzerland, as well as ASJ Soyaux in France, Turbine Potsdam in Germany, and FC Bethlehem in Israel.
Zogg also made four appearances in the UEFA Women’s Champions League with FC Zürich between 2019 and 2020. In 2021, she made her international debut for Nigeria’s Super Falcons.
Expressing her excitement about joining the A-League, Zogg stated,
“Once my manager told me about the possibility of going to Perth Glory, I jumped at the opportunity. I have heard so much about the quality and level of the league and always wanted to experience it.
“Now, to be able to do this with Perth Glory is such a fantastic opportunity. I’m really looking forward to meeting my teammates and coach in person and to being an effective contributor to the club’s success.”
Perth Glory head coach Stephen Peters praised Zogg as a “technical and athletic defender,” and her signing is part of a broader strategy to strengthen the squad.
Zogg is the seventh new player to join Glory this season, while the club has also retained key players such as Jessika Cowart, Susan Phonsongkham, and Izzy Foletta, as they prepare for the new season.
The Super Falcons star’s addition is expected to bring experience and stability to Glory’s backline as they aim for a successful campaign in the Liberty A-League.
