Nigeria’s Lookman finally resumes Atalanta training amid Arsenal transfer interest following PSG speculations

Super Eagles forward Ademola Lookman has rejoined Atalanta’s training sessions after a brief period of absence amid swirling transfer speculations linking him to Paris Saint-Germain, Soccernet.ng reports.

The Nigerian international, who had been a key figure for Atalanta, returned to training on Thursday, August 22, following days of uncertainty regarding his future.

Lookman had participated in Atalanta’s first official match of the season — a 2-0 loss to Real Madrid in the UEFA Super Cup — before requesting to be left out of the Serie A opener against Lecce.

This decision intensified rumours of a potential move to PSG. However, as interest from the French giants reportedly waned, Lookman has once again made himself available for selection by Atalanta coach Gian Piero Gasperini.

Earlier reports suggest that Atalanta met with Lookman’s representatives and addressed the issues amicably with the club looking to offer the forward fresh contracts and a salary increase.

Having been instrumental in Atalanta’s Europa League triumph last season, where he scored a memorable hat-trick against Bayer Leverkusen, Lookman’s return to training is a significant boost for the Nerazzurri. His presence in the squad is expected to strengthen Atalanta as they prepare for the challenges ahead.

Despite the return, the transfer saga surrounding Lookman is far from over.

Arsenal, Liverpool, and Manchester City are reportedly eyeing the 26-year-old attacker, with the Gunners seemingly leading the race.

The London giants are poised to test Atalanta’s resolve with a €50 million bid plus defender Jakub Kiwior, as per reports.

Lookman has contributed 32 goals and 18 assists – his highest tallies for any club – in 79 appearances for Atalanta since joining from RB Leipzig for just under 10 million euros in 2022.
